Green bags, local shelves Live Well La Pine launched the Newberry Country Food Project this year. The idea is simple. Take a green bag. Each time you shop, add a can, a box of cereal, or a bag of rice. Every other month, those bags are collected and stay right here in South Deschutes and North Klamath Counties. Thursday’s Newberry Country Food Project collection showed once again what our community can accomplish when we come together with purpose and compassion. Across all participating organizations, 143 green bags were donated, totaling 2,149 pounds of shelf‑stable food, and 158 pounds of hygiene items.
