Thursday’s Newberry Country Food Project collection showed once again what our community can accomplish when we come together with purpose and compassion.
Across all participating organizations, 143 green bags were donated, totaling 2,149 pounds of shelf‑stable food, and 158 pounds of hygiene items. Every contribution — every bag filled, every hour volunteered — helped strengthen the safety net for families in our rural Newberry County region.
June 25 Collection Totals:
- La Pine Community Health Center: 3 bags • 22 lbs
- High Lakes Christian Church: 103 bags • 1,753 lbs
- St. Vincent de Paul of La Pine: 4 bags • 94 lbs
- South County Collaborative: 1 bag • 21 lbs
- The La Pine Grange: 26 bags • 354 lbs
- Oregon Department of Human Services – La Pine: 4 bags • 47 lbs
- Individual Donors: 2 bags • 16 lbs
Total: 143 bags • 2,307 lbs of food Plus 158 lbs of hygiene items
Impact on Families: Using the standard pantry‑planning metric — 6 pounds of shelf‑stable food feeds one family of four for one day — Thursday’s collection will feed approximately358 families of four for one full day.
High Lakes Christian Church: 1,753 lbs → 292 families fed
La Pine Grange: 354 lbs → 59 families fed
Their ongoing partnership remains a cornerstone of this project’s success. Each contribution, along with every bag provided by every partner, has made a meaningful difference for families throughout our region.
Where the Donations Went:
- All food items were delivered to the LPCK Extension Pantry at Gilchrist School, supporting students, families, and neighbors across northern Klamath County.
- All hygiene items remained at La Pine Community Kitchen to support our Closet and local hygiene‑assistance programs.
