Newberry Regional Partnership Defensible Space Action Team (DSAT) Wins NFPA Award
The Newberry Regional Partnership Defensible Space Action Team (DSAT) is proud to announce it has received an award from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for its wildfire preparedness initiative.
DSAT is now seeking a qualifying local property owner—whose home would benefit from fuel reduction, home hardening, and creation of defensible space. The team will perform the work at no cost to the selected property owner, with all expenses covered by the Newberry Regional Partnership (NRP) and its partners.
In addition to completing the hands-on project, DSAT will host small on-site workshops covering power tool safety, Air Curtain Incinerator operations, best practices for defensible space, and the use of fire-resilient plants and landscaping. An educational video documenting the project and workshops will also be produced and shared with the broader community.
This project will make the selected property significantly more resilient to wildfire, improve its insurability, and potentially increase its value.
