Economy – principally the complex of businesses, business services, agencies, workforce, employment and other income (e.g. transfer payments such as Social Security and pensions), land ownership and taxation that characterize the flow of money in the community. As transportation has improved, rural areas have incrementally lost businesses and business services to regional centers. The Institute cannot directly support a private business or individual but it does support organizations that serve to promote economic development such as Connecting Oregon for Rural Entrepreneurship and Main Street programs.
